Peter Smith
Peter Smith has lived on Quadra Island for 19 years and took up oil painting after arriving on the island. Retired, he spent a career as a newspaper crime reporter for 37 years in England and Canada. He enjoys realism painting of marine, and boating scenes, people and aircraft.
Peter Smith’s greatest artist hero is Norman Rockwell. This year, by way of Peter’s tribute to his favourite painter, he imagined what the result would have been if Rockwell had visited Quadra Island. The result became this mini exhibit of Peter’s rendition of some of Rockwell’s most endearing characters posed in classic Quadra settings. Rockwell had clearly discovered the little-known island group, the Quadra “SLAGS” (Secrets, Liars And Gossips Society)!
