Johann's work follows a concept in a real, sociological, and spiritual way.
He follows the principle of “Concept” to combine an artistic process with contemporary topics, art history and relevant social events of the world or the region where he lives. "But, my art is not entirely conceptual", says Johann. "Unlike conceptualists, I feel the need to have a hand on my work. I need to be physically involved. The longing to make things is like the wish to creating ideas, combined with passion and an aim for reality. Imitating the reality is unpleasant for me. My artwork has to be real."
"If we expect that beside our conscience a reality exists which we can experience through thinking, feeling and awareness, than this is the realism I’m aiming for."
Johann considers Art a medium to reflect sociological events. He also sees a spiritual dimension in Art. Therefore, his artwork covers the Full spectrum of media.
"I view artwork as a vehicle in which to open dialogue. I explore the relationship and interactions of human-made environment and nature. Although I work in a variety of mediums to convey a particular idea, two aspects remain constant:
1) to engage the viewer visually and intellectually.
2) To consider every facet in creating a work to create context."
