Helen Lee

I am a watercolor painter who strives to capture the spirit of my images in fresh, spontaneous gestures. Living on the West coast island of Quadra I draw my inspiration from the surrounding landscape; ocean, mountains, gardens all entice me to paint outside year round which enables me to capture fleeting images with directness and spontaneity. Last year I have been exploring landscape through collage and acrylics; a new venture. I have studied at Emily Carr College of Art and Design and have long drawn inspiration from the works of David Milne, John Marin, Richard Reid, Wolf Kahn and from the outdoor sketch books of Barbara Rae which provoked me to head out, with only a tiny paint palette in hand, into the early sunrise.
