Gordon JamesGordon James received his diploma from the Alberta College of Art in 1976. Since then he and his wife, Martha, have operated James Pottery at their studio overlooking Georgia Strait on Quadra Island. Gordon has exhibited his functional and sculptural ceramics, paintings and prints locally, nationally and internationally.
My work is divided three ways between functional utilitarian ware, decorative flat ware and sculpture. My plain utilitarian work and sculpture are made in stoneware while the decorative pieces tend to be made with low fired earthenware clay. Aside from the purely functional work, most of my imagery is derived from the figure. I like to experiment with variations on the human face and form.
