Gary Falck

Graduating from U-Vic with his teaching degree (Art Education) in 1980, Gary moved to Campbell River/Quadra Island where he began the pottery program at Phoenix High School and taught pottery at a number of other schools right up until retiring in 2012. He started his Quadra Island studio in 2013.
My work has evolved over the years from constructing earthenware hand-built coil/ slab decorative pieces and functional wheel-thrown items to currently creating raku wall-hangings, vases and other decorative pieces. Textural surface design themes are derived from the natural environment, with a focus on vegetation and the ocean, as well as geometric patterns. I like to experiment by adding coils, balls, or pinched slabs of clay to the surfaces of vases or tiles to create beautiful imagery on each piece.
