Elena Mason

Elena Mason was born and raised in New Mexico. She attended Highland University where she majored in Education and worked in the Art Department. She came to Quadra in 1983 and started to collect driftwood and beach glass. Today she works with a combination of beach glass, stained glass and driftwood.
My interest in mosaic began when I was a child. Back then coloured paper was my medium. As I grew I used things like plastic, jewellery and marbles; no glass. After school, I lost interest in mosaics. Years later my interest resurfaced and I mosaiced a floor using log rounds. When I came to Quadra I discovered beach glass and shells and the interest in mosaics started again. Now I use coloured class to better express mood and movement.
